ABOUT the practice.
MODUS is a workshop of ideas grounded in the realities of building. Guided by a builder’s understanding and a designer’s eye, MODUS DESIGN WORKSHOP creates work defined by method, craft, and purpose.
The name, derived from the Latin word modus— meaning ‘method,’ ‘measure,’ and ‘manner’ — embodies the belief that good design begins with knowing how things are made.
Most clients don’t hire an architect for drawings—they hire one because they’re imagining a space that doesn’t yet exist. A place shaped around how they want to live.
The role of builder-informed architecture is to translate a client’s vision into a buildable reality. Space, light, materials, and construction are considered together so the design can be executed as one integrated whole. That level of integration reflects not just a design approach, but how a practice is structured — aligning design thinking with construction efficiency from the start.

ABOUT the value.
WHY WORK DIRECTLY WITH A SMALL PRACTICE?
Good architecture isn't measured by the size of the office producing it. Design fees reflect the time, expertise, and responsibility required to transform an idea into a buildable reality. In larger firms, project costs often include layers of management and organizational overhead that exist beyond the needs of any one project.
At MODUS DESIGN WORKSHOP, the focus remains on thoughtful design, practical problem-solving, and direct collaboration. Every project receives hands-on involvement from the architect, with decisions informed by both design and construction experience.
Fewer barriers. Less overhead. More attention on the work that actually gets built.

Dan Deodato, AIA
Owner + Architect
ABOUT the architect.
Dan Deodato is a registered architect and member of the American Institute of Architects. He earned both his Bachelor's and Master's of Architecture degrees from the Wentworth Institute of Technology, concentrating on building science and emerging technologies. His graduate thesis explored new and experimental dwelling typologies aimed at addressing the growing demand for housing at the urban-suburban edges of major cities like Boston.
Dan began his career working under award-winning architects, including Adolfo Perez and LDa Architecture & Interiors, where he contributed to both commercial and high-end residential projects across New England and nationwide. His experience merges design excellence with technical precision, all of which is grounded in a deep respect for craftsmanship and the realities of construction.
A third-generation builder and craftsman, Dan’s upbringing instilled a hands-on understanding of how buildings come together. When he’s not designing, he can often be found on a construction site or in his workshop, continuing the family tradition of making.
